What’s “The Un-Portrait” anyway?

So you just picked up your beloved pooch from the groomer, and she’s looking like a paragon of canine beauty. In fact, she’s a furry vision. Jealousy begins to grow in the neighborhood dog population. She starts making little stops at the mirror every once in a while. She’s looking good, and she knows it. And then it hits you. We HAVE to get a picture of this, you think! It can’t be that hard, right? Imagining it framed above her memory-foam doggie bed, you grab your camera and go in for that perfect shot. But alas, it’s not that easy. A frustrated hour or so later, rug burns on your knees from getting down to her level, you download the photos only to be greeted with a motley assortment of blur, fuzz and overexposure. Nice work, Ansel Adams.

What next? It’s time for professional intervention, so off to the pet photographer’s studio you go. With pooch perfectly placed on a pillow, chair or other unnecessary cutesy prop, it’s portrait time. Oh boy! You wave a squeaky toy at her, hope for a cute face, and the shutterbug snaps away. The results are, well, in a word, boring. Let’s think about this for a minute. Who wants their pet’s portrait to look like those awkward Olan Mills family photos of the 1990s? Anybody? No takers? That’s what I thought. Forgive my bluntness, but please, we can do better here, people! Let’s show the world our pets as they really are! Enter Furry Face Photography, Nikon in hand.

My mission is “The Un-Portrait,” a casual, fun photo session with you and your furry family members. How does it work? Simple is best. I get to know your pet a bit, spend some time with them, get a feel of where and how the shoot should take place, and then we just enjoy our time together! If it’s a part of their lives, include it! I want to show them with their favorite toys, places, activities, neighborhood friends, etc. Play with them like you would any other day! My aim is unique images of your pets having a blast being themselves. Don’t be surprised to see me rolling around on the grass, shooting from all kinds of crazy angles, and enjoying every second of it! The results? I think they speak for themselves…take a look and see what I mean! I look forward to meeting some new furry faces soon!
